Dr. Cristina Gheorghiu-Stephens is a native of Romania. She earned her undergraduate degree from the Academy of Economic Studies, Bucharest, Romania, a graduate certificate in Social Policy from the University of Oxford, England and a PhD in Sociology from Georgia State University. Prior to joining Kennesaw State University in 2009, she worked as a research analyst for the American Cancer Society. She enjoys teaching “Foundations of Social Theory” courses and her research interests lie in the areas of Immigration, Acculturation, Multicultural Health Behavior and Quality of Life. Some of her most recent work has been published in the Journal of Psycho-Oncology. Dr. Stephens is currently conducting a study on the acculturative experiences of high-skill immigrant parents navigating the American K-12 public education system and the psycho-social implications of these experiences for parental quality of life. She also acts as the Online Coordinator for the Sociology and Criminal Justice Department and as the Program Director for the Online B.S. in Sociology program - one of the first fully-online Sociology programs to be launched in the country
