Dr. Daniel Farr received his Ph.D. (Sociology) and M.A. (Women's Studies) from the University at Albany, SUNY. His interests focus on the issues of masculinities, sexualities, LGBT studies, fat studies, and media studies. He is a 2016-2017 GLBTIQ Faculty Fellow for the Center of Diversity Leadership and Engagement at KSU.
He has published in journals such as the Journal of Lesbian Studies, Teaching Media Quarterly, and Radical Teacher and in a variety of collections. His publications address topics such as: the depiction of the lesbian body in the L-Word and Queer as Folk, Tomboy personal ads on Craigslist, Transgender personal ads on Craigslist, queer imagery in Pushing Daisies, Gay and lesbian marketing and consumption, and queer boyhood. His piece “Sissy Boy, Progressive Parents” has been particularly well received, appearing in three anthologies.
He has guest edited special journal issues on “Fat Masculinities” for Men and Masculinities (2013), “Men and Masculinities in Women’s Studies” for Women’s Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal, and “Global Lesbian Cinema” for the Journal of Lesbian Studies (2012). He currently sits on the editorial board of The Journal of Lesbian Studies and Red Feather Journal: An International Journal of Children in Popular Culture.
